Hello everyone, I am stressing out right now because I have a interview on January 22nd after 1. sending my application in late (before deadline though) and 2. i have poor DAT score taken last august. I planed on retaking it a couple days from now but didn't feel like i was ready so i postponed it to February 18th. I'm worried that both a late application and postponing the DAT 6 months from my last one will work against me in my interview. I currently have a 3.7GPA, 360 shadowing hours, a good bit of volunteer hours and military background. I don't know what i would say to those two things during an interview. please help!

Step 1. Watch "The Pursuit of Happyness"
Step 2. Take Notes
Step 3. The part during his interview when they ask him what he would say if they hired someone wearing the beat up clothes he was wearing and he says "They must of had on some really nice pants"

Instead when they ask why they should accept someone with a low dat score you reply "Because they must have a great gpa and passion for dentistry as indacted by their grades and ECs" !!!!

Congratulations on your interview. Be confident and don't stress out. You have good gpa and ECs. To answer your questions, no one will ask you why you applied late. And about delaying your DAT, you can just say exactly what you mentioned in your post that you didn't feel ready, nothing wrong about that. In my opinion, since you've been offered the interview now, it means that they're ok with you DAT, not really counting on your retake.

If they were willing to offer you an interview, that means they have deemed you to be academically competent. A lot of people get cut out before being offered an interview. Once your GPA and DAT exceed a certain threshold, there will be little to no correlation between numbers and the ability to succeed in dental school. Focus on being able to explain your activities and your interest in dentistry.

This.

Take a deep breath, calm down. The admissions committee reviewed your scores before offering you an interview, so they're obviously interested. Be confident, show them why you're passionate about dentistry. If they ask you questions about your low Dat scores, just be honest.
You have a really good gpa that'll make up for the low score.
