The scores themselves are meaningless -- it's how well you learn the things you get wrong that are key. So if you get most of World wrong as you go through it but learn everything you get wrong well, you are golden.

Here is a thread where each student posts their actual USMLE score and what they did on various other prepatory tests (NBME, USMLEworld, Kaplan, "official" USMLE practice CD, etc.)

http://www.prep4usmle.com/forum/thread/10309

From what I've seen, alot of people agree that the NBME is the most accurate predictor of actual Step 1 scores...as it should be since those are written by pretty much the same people.

USMLEworld is another one that has a lot of positive feedback. The general consensus is that their questions are tougher than the actual USMLE and helps you to solidify concepts through some deep thinking.

Kaplan goes both ways, some people love it some don't. Price is another factor. And some say Kaplan's questions are easier and are not really geared towards those who want to break the curve at or above 2 standard deviations.

No disrespect to nist7 intended, but I would stay away from ANY advice given out at that forum. I read that forum for awhile, and found that it was full of the following types:

1. Trolls
2. People who can't express themselves even remotely intelligently.
3. Liars from God-knows-where who will say anything and everything.

After having read SDN for about three-or-four months, I'll never again go back to prep4usmle.com. Too many liars and jerks.

No offense taken. In fact, I must thank you for your opinion on that forum. SDN has been and always will be my first and top choice, but I had just recently discovered that website and haven't had any time to analyze the quality of the people there.

In any event, when I need to gather information and advice, I always look for many resource avenues, and I would certainly believe that other students will do the same and take everything in with a grain of salt.

I did! unlike the other computer illiterates. except there are lot more threads for step 2 then step 1 , and for step 1 i only find scores for people who get like 240-260s.
i couldnt find anyone saying i got 200 and I had this uworld scores.
maybe you should do a search? huh?

You need to get your facts straight. There are WAY more threads for Step 1 than there are for Step 2. Its not even close.

If you're looking for the path of least resistance, my advice is to not bother. Because you'll end up flunking. You need to put in a lot of hard work just to pass this exam, and studying with the intent of "just passing" is setting yourself up for failure.

Ditto.

I can't understand why ANYONE would be content with just passing the exam. 😕

yo read the threads carefully. when did I ever say my intention was 'just passing'? so stop quoting me with your imaginary thoughts.
believe it or not, not everyone who takes the step 1 have scores above 240. the average score is 210-215 so half the people should be below that score.
P.S I almost want to diagnose you with ADD for not reading the threads right.

You can take your foot out of your mouth now.

Btw, do you even know what ADD is? Might be time for you to brush up on your behavioral sciences, genius.

yeah wow you can read my mind!!! I ask the correlation between usmle world and passing scores on USMLE and suddenly you know my goals on the step and in life? get a life

if you cant answer the question for what this thread was posted for, move on ,

P.S you got my intent just so right, I only intend to score 185 not a point more or less, i am just an overachiever like that.

I think if you are consistently scoring above 50% you should pass. And given how much you learn while u do questions will determine your final score. And don't forget LUCK 🙂 ... if the exams plays to your strength, you are golden ...
Hey thanks for the response.. really appreciate. i am scoring around 50% we will see how the day goes

I just posted this in another thread, but I would not recommend using USMLE World to gauge your progress. You should take an NBME exam instead. I am very suspicious that UWorld scores may not correlate with actual exam scores. I was "consistently above 50%," but still dipping down to the 50's frequently with an average of 60% (50% of questions completed) and scored well above passing, but it seems like there are people who scored lower on the real thing but had similar UWorld score to me..if that makes sense. Anyway, the point is I would not put too much stock in USMLE World scores, although it is excellent preparation for the exam.
