Hello,

I am a 20 year old male, permenant resident of the United States, My only college education is that I finished 3years of a Foreign Medical School; the equivalent courses of the first two years of a US medical school, did really well ( I am the top of my class of 1000+ students). Well, I am transferring to an Undergraduate College in the United States, so that Later on I could apply to one of the top ten medical schools in the United States, either an MD or MSTP program.

I got accepted to two universities, Cornell Chemical and Bio-molecular Engineering (Cornell doesn't have a Bio-medical Engineering Major) and Case Western Reserve University Bio-medical Engineering. My dilemma is to choose Ivy League over Major (I personally prefer Bio-medical Engineering over Bio-molecular Engineering, but I could also Live happily with Bio-molecular Engineering), or Major over Ivy League to do my pre-medical degree. I hope anyone could give me any Insight on what to choose.

Thank you

Good reply, oldking. I graduated from Cornell too, and I want to reiterate that Cornell definitely has a wealth of biomedical engineering related classes. I think that the old ABEN major has been renamed tho... there is a biological and environmental engineering major as well as a chemical and biochemical engineering major. There is, however, also an interdisciplinary program in biomedical engineering. Take a look at some of the courses available here . I LOVED Cornell, so while I agree that it can be pretty competitive, I also think it was really worthwhile.

I forgot to Highlight that Case Western Reserve University is rated by Usnews as the fourth best in Biomedical Engineering, after JHU, Duke, UCSD and before MIT. Given this data can I assume that I will have more Bio-medical research opportunities at CWRU in BME, or Cornell will too have comparable opportunities in BME; since I want to apply for an MSTP in Biomedical Engineering.

I would love Cornell too if I wasn't having my butt kicked in the science classes. AAAAGGGGHHH!!!😡

Also, it's too damn cold here.

yeah cornell will be hard as hell. one of my best friends transferred here from case. so he knows both of them. case is a joke compared to here. plus aben is tougher than normal stuff i think, so it adds up. if you are mad smart then come here, if not just kick ass at case. too many kids go into aben and cannot get into med school. you could go to cornell under aben and just not take any classes and change your major, that way you get to go here without putting up with all the crap. i mean, you want to be a doctor more than an engineer, right?

man, i just ate at wok village buffet...its so good, but food coma is killing me. i like wok better than king because its so fresh.

They also forgot to tell you that med school admissions don't give a d*mn that Case's biomed engineering is ahead of MIT's. You think that Harvard med will be more impressed by a case biomed grad with 3.5 GPA than an MIT grad with 3.6 GPA (or 4.6 equivalent at MIT)? give me a break....
