HELP! What are postbac adcoms looking for in the essays on the application??

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
...usually they are looking for your motivation, and for your preparation leading to this moment...not unlike the personal statements submitted for med school admissions...

Please describe how you prepared for postbac essays and what key things to include in essays for postbac programs!

For what it's worth, I talked about what went wrong during my undergrad education (i.e. lack of maturity, personal issues), and my willingness to work hard if given another opportunity. I finished off by saying something along the lines of "I am not the same person I was five years ago. I will do whatever it takes to succeed in the program......"

Hope this helps to get you going.

That also depends if you're doing a formal postbac to get the prereqs or a special masters program. Many people who are doing formal postbacs have 4.0 or close to it in a non-science major and it's more important for them to elucidate their interest in medicine rather than explain away any perceived flaws.

Good advice, and I believe the OP is actually applying to SMPs, FWIW...
