Hello. I'm taking a year off to do research (a chill out a little). I was working at Columbia over last summer in Pediatric Oncology. I'm not interested in Ped onc for a future career, but the lab was ok to work at. If they offer me a job for next year, should I take it, or look for something in a field that interests me? I'm worried that med schools will think I'm jumping around too much, because I've allready worked at 2 different labs.

Thanks!😀

I'm doing the same thing right now, and I am working in a melanoma lab that I worked in as an undergrad for 2 years. They will definitely appreciate the continuity, but still do what you like. One perk in working somewhere where you have a relationship with the PI and other researchers is that if you've already proved yourself as a hard worker, they get real nice and understanding about all the time you gonna miss for interviews, and you can work something out.

I second this; having a pre-existing relationship with my boss has really helped in terms of scheduling time off. Plus, no one even says anything when I'm surfing SDN during working hours! 😀
