I'm looking at a possible question, and need help with the answer here.
For a fracture of a humerus with a possible radial nerve entrapment (wrist looks floppy) the rule is that if you reduce it and motion in the wrist returns, you don't need to do anything further. However, the kaplan book says that if you reduce it and suddenly they lose their radial nerve function, then you need ORIF. but my question is this, kaplan says that if you have a pt come in with radial nerve entrapment and they don't get better with closed reduction, they will eventually, it just takes time. It seems just as likely though that they might get a further entrapment with reduction, so wouldn't ORIF be needed if they do not get better with closed reduction?
