Hey everyone !
So I have decided to go into medicine field and I need help confirming my plan.
URM- May be considered disadvantaged- Female
I graduated from a high ranked SUNY with a bachelors in International Relations with a cUGPA of a 2.58. I also took a few classes at CUNY after wihich brings my cUGPA up to a 2.63.
My uniqueness is that I am about to graduate with my masters in teaching next spring with a grad GPA of 3.8. This will give me a overall GPA of about 2.8.
My current plan of action :
Enroll in CUNY as a 2nd degree student, Retake Bio 1 and Calc 1 ( Had a C- ) and also take all my pre requisites . I also plan to take Biostats and Bio Chem . possible a semester of physiology and molecular biology) . Im giving My self about 3 years. The goal is to hit that 3.0 mark so I won't get screened out. expecting to apply spring of 2025 so I will be taking my MCAT winter 2024 app. Goal score of 520
Current experiences
Paid clinical:
Direct support professional from July 2018- August 2020 ( over 3000 Hrs) I did lots of overtime
Paid non clinical:
Case Manager: 1 year : APPX 1500 hrs ( Helped open up a new satellite site and strong advocate for changing protocol in terms of when clients had a medical emergency)
Current occupation: HS Special Education Teacher🙁 I Teach Biology, Chem and environmental Science )
Currently doing E shadowing
Volunteer ( Definitely plan on doing more):
American cancer society relay for life ~ 50 hrs - Fundraising
Democratic National convention - Cold caller -~40 hrs ( Debating on mentioning this since it is political)
Malala Fund: fundraising for girls getting a education ~ 30 hr
Leadership:
Treasurer - Sorority - ( 1yr)
Academic Chair- Pre law fraternity 2 yrs
Alumni Correspondence Co-chair- 1 Year - Rugby team
Intercolllegiate sports - Womens Rugby club (D2 and D3)- all 4 years of undergrad
Any other things you guys suggest?
