Hi everyone,

I am STRUGGLING with pattern folding... I've watched the video on youtube at least a dozen times and I continually miss problems. There may be times when I would narrow it down to 2 and I would choose the wrong one. Do y'all have any good tips for this section besides the video? I'd greatly appreciate it.

Pattern folding was easier on the actual DAT. Take your time and mentally fold everything in your head after reviewing the question. Use your answer choices to try to increases your chances of the right answer.

1. Look at your answer choices and compare it to the figure given. Usually you can narrow it down to two answers choice pretty easily.
2. Look for patterns in the answers choices and compare it to the one in figure. You don't have to fold everything in your head just a couple of parts together and see if it matches up with your answer choices.
3. Practice!! At first I was the same way I couldn't figure out the pattern folding at all but with repetition you have learned a way that is comfortable and correct to you.

I hope this helps!!

For me the biggest help was the BC explanations. What i focused on was how to "rotate" one panel to another so that I could try to eliminate some answer choice.
The key for me was to not waste time trying to fold the whole picture. just to 1) focus on the actual panels given, sometimes the answer look right, but is built with the wrong pieces. 2) pick a answer choice, and see if displayed panels can be achieved.
I know it sounds over simplified, but doing those steps in that order worked very well for me during practice tests (and arguably on the actual DAT).

I greatly appreciate the help y'all! Happy Holidays/Merry Christmas!

Oh I'd like to mention, the actual DAT has harder shapes but the answers are more obvious. I had a lot of irregular shapes but the answers were so much easier that I didn't need to completely analyze the shape in 3D to get the correct answer. I don't know if I made that sound clear... but yeah use the answers to help on the PAT.
