Can someone please read my personal statement and give me feedback? English is my second language so I'm not sure whether it looks fine or not. Thanks in advance.

why don't you go to http://www.customwritings.com/ ? They have professional editing services with guaranteed satisfaction! Or, go to your school's pre-med office and have them look at it.

having other dental students look at it is just plain stupid. most of us were science majors undergrad and can't write an essay to save our own life. not only that, there are limited seats for all dental schools and it's all very competitive. whoever read your personal statement may decide to post it online just for kicks. What's gonna happen then? Admissions will think you plagiarized the whole thing and now you're disqualified for dental school... FOREVER!

You'd be tainted for the rest of your life! Forever marked as the student who couldn't come up with their own personal statement and copied some random paper online and thought he could get away with it! Oh man, you'd be so screwed! You wouldn't even be able to get an MBA!

By your argument, using a professional editing service would make little sense since they are unlikely to have a dental professional on their staff. If you are likely to be banned forever for plagiarizing a ps that is actually original makes about as much sense as being banned forever for using a professional editing service.

What made little sense? Instead of dental professional, professional editing service have English majors who specialize in editing essays. English majors know more about continuity, grammar, flow, style, etc than dentists, dental students, and pre-dents.

And if someone sends me their personal statement, I can (or anyone can), out of **** & giggles, REPOST the PS on ANOTHER online forum/site. Once it's circulated, the originality of the PS may disappears because it's can be searchable via Google in 3 days.

Case in point, I wrote a joke essay to a topic on SDN Dental Forum a few days ago ~ the content of my post in that topic is now searchable.

Imagine if what I had posted instead, was a personal statement. And imagine the student who sent it to me didn't revise it all that much, and sent it to adcomm for review. If adcomm just randomly type a sentence from the PS on Google. It'd immediately provide a link with time stamp just several months prior. From the adcomm's point of view, the student had copied the PS word for word from the forum, and submitted it. 100% plagiarism.

Chances are "predents, dental students and dentists" know more about "continuity, grammar, flow, style" than English majors know about predents, dental students and dentistry.

Sh**! I gave a few people read my p.s. Does this mean they will post it online and screw my life???
Oh my God! You make me really worry

I will proofread it, but don't worry, the first person who responded to you is paranoid. Just going to check your grammar if you want.

What does knowing about predents, dental students, and dentistry have to do with personal statement? I thought it's an essay to show the ad comm what kind of a person the applicant is ~ whether they're compassionate, ethical, culturally competent, et.

Lots of people on these forum are pre-dents just like you, and they're applying just like you. What makes you think they won't use elements from YOUR personal statement in THEIR personal statement? How would the adcomm feel if they see your personal statement second, and thought to themselves, "wait, I read a very similar paragraph just yesterday!"

Why take chances?

I won't. The only person I sent it to is "doc toothache" and since he has lots of posts and is not a predent anymore, I believe I can trust him. But you are partially right, so I'm not gonna send it to anyone else.

Thank you so much Dream** I know you are right about the confidentiality and I am feeling weird giving it to others since i do have some really personal information on there that i wouldn't want other predental students to read about.

I would go to my department and ask for help! or maybe send it to the guy the last person refered to.

Thanks

Bring your essay to the writing center at your school.
People in the center and you go through the essay together and you don't have to worry about other stuff.. or send your essay to doc toothache as someone mentioned above.
