Can we get a discussion going on the best resources for job searching in our specialty?

What are good websites with job search engines? Reputable recruiters? Creative ideas for landing jobs?

Thanks

Hi kindredspirit,

I got on here this morning to post a question about job hunting...looks like we're in the same boat.

Here's what I've found so far:
1. From SDN mother of all stickies link there is a job hunting guide:
http://forums.studentdoctor.net/showthread.php?t=531204

2. AAPM&R has a job board
http://www.aapmr.org/career/job-board/Pages/default.aspx

3. Reference your PM&R Journals i.e. Archives for jobs posted in the back

4. PracticeLink is ok for PM&R but gives good tips in general

I have a couple of questions for those who have been through this:
- How do you feel about the utility of recruiters and as the OP asked any good ones?
- How do I find "regional locum tenens i.e. working my way along the gulf coast?
- Any good locum tenens websites tenens?

this is a recruiting website, but I actually found them to be helpful.

stjohnjobs.com

Someone else recommended linkedin.com as a resource for networking and possible job leads.

Curious whether anyone has experienced difficulty finding general, outpatient, musculoskeletal based positions, post-residency? Those of you who may have opted out of doing a Fellowship primarily?

What are some thoughts on building a practice doing rehab consults in sub-acute nursing facilities? Has anyone had experience doing this and/or working with the various consulting firms that offer support in this arena?

What about doing per diem electrodiagnosis?

Any other ideas?

Some recent grads from my program on the east coast are doing that through an agency... Snf consults and emgs... Good $ and hours.. Sorry don't know the name off hand- will ask them

SNF consults - did them for a while - boring and mostly useless. No one reads your notes and they ignore your orders. Travel time degrades it's worth.

When looking for a first job, do not be afraid of the recruiters. Especially people like Linda Farr, and some of the Miner&Mason people. They can be very helpful, and try hard to match you with the right people. For nothing else, they can help networking.
