Hi SDN fam,

I would really appreciate help with my school list! (Hopefully the information is not a dead giveaway, but I want to provide as much info as possible!)

Undergraduate college: Washington University in St. Louis
Major: Spanish, Biology
Cumulative GPA: 3.81
Science GPA: 3.76
MCAT: 516 (129/127/130/130)

CA resident
Ethnicity: Asian, Hispanic
Languages spoken: Spanish, Tagalog

Activities:
-Microbiology research: 2 poster presentations, senior thesis, but no publications (1000+ hours, 3 years and one full summer
-TA for two classes: proctoring, grading, office hours, attending lecture, exam review sessions (~500 hours over 2 years)
-Vice president and student union liaison for a campus chapter of an organization that I helped to start. The organization subsidizes surgeries for children to receive surgeries in the United States. (~100 hours over 2 years)
-Volunteer tutor for two organizations; one targeted for Latino students and the other for youth at a local charter school (~160 hours over 2 years).
-Shadowed: Cardiologist, pediatrician, ophthalmologist, plastic surgeon/wound care specialist, emergency medicine physician (200 hours)
-Clinical volunteer hours (70 hours-- Super worried about this, but I will be working full time in a clinic during my gap year).

Gap year plans:
-This summer I am going to Latin America to serve at a local clinic, and will be partnering with an NGO and clinic staff to develop a public health research project and collect data. I will also help the NGO to spread awareness within rural communities about public health (6-10 week commitment: don’t want to be too specific to avoid identification).
-Full-time job at an urgent care facility (40 hours/week): I will be trained to perform medical technician duties, such as: performing vitals, taking lab orders, starting IVs, and applying splints. I will also be serving as a medical scribe.
-Continue microbiology research (part-time: <20 hours/week)
-Maybe TA for one class if time permits

Any help would be welcomed and appreciated!!

Preliminary med school list:
CA State schools

2. UCLA- target/reach?
3. UCSD- target/reach?

4. UC Davis- good
5. UC Irvine- good
6. UC Riverside- good

Good, based on MSAR numbers
1. Creighton
2. Georgetown
3. University of North Carolina
4. Saint Louis University

Targets (Hoping to find more! Can cut schools from reaches)

4. Dartmouth

Ahhhh…. Reaches!!! (…Too ambitious? Too many?)
1. Duke: sister worked at hospital, and is very familiar with NC.
2. Columbia: Dream!
3. Harvard: Dream school! Fishing in the air. PI is from Harvard, but no real reason to believe I have a decent shot)
4. Yale: Dream. Working with NGO that is Yale-affiliated; may present at conference
5. WashU: Undergrad college (heard they favor undergrads), but my numbers are low for this school… sad.
6. Stanford: Another dream. No reason to believe I have a particularly good chance.

I suggest the following. Nothing wrong with aiming high; the ones I have in bold are schools where your MCAT score is 2-3 points below their avg, and your GPA is ~ the same as the school avg. Thus, proceed with caution on these, but I feel you're in striking distance for some.
