Hi,

Longtime lurker, first time poster.

I have applied to many SMP programs and now I have the privilege of deciding which one is the right fit for me.

Accepted:

1) Chicago Medical School BMS Program
2) Barry University Master of Sciences in Biomedical Sciences
3) Loyola MAMS
4) Boston University MAMS
5) USF MS in Medical Sciences

Waitlisted:

1) Georgetown SMP

Waiting on Response:

1) Tulane Anatomy Certification Program
2) Temple Advanced Core in Medical Sciences Program

In reviewing this forum and using the search feature, as well as doing my own research and visiting some of these schools, I have determined that of my current acceptances the Chicago Medical School BMS program is my #1 pick.

Assuming I get into every program I have listed my order of preference would be:

1) Tulane
2) Temple
3) Chicago Medical School
4) BU MAMS ~ Loyola MAMS
5) USF IMS
6) Georgetown SMP
7) Barry

What I am asking you guys is do you think that this order of preference is pretty accurate based on your personal experiences and any research you have done?

Regards,

BU MAMS ~ Loyola MAMS above USF and Georgetown? I think that's not right, but maybe better experts will chime in soon.

I based it on my interest. It seems to me like USF and Georgetown do not provide me with the same level of guarantee of at least receiving an interview contingent upon good enough grades that BU and Loyola seem to do (this OPINION is based on the resources I have at my disposal, I have not visited either program). Also, I am from Florida, so this is why I put USF over Georgetown.

Anyways, what I am really concerned about is making sure my #1 (Tulane), #2 (Temple), and particularly my #3 pick (CMS) are in the right order. Can anyone with more experience offer me any insight into this.

I suggest it's a mistake to prioritize host school interview/linkage over setting yourself up to get into a FL school and/or the best possible school you can get into. Please please please consider the cost of attendance at the SMP host schools. Also consider whether you can handle being in a midwestern/northeastern winter for more than a year without losing your mind.

If you get into Tulane ACP or Temple, then it's fair to bet that you'll be in med school right after completing the SMP. But aside from those 2 programs, it's SO MUCH SMARTER to wait to apply until AFTER you complete the SMP. If you wait, you maximize your chances, you maximize your choices, and you increase the odds of getting into a FL school and saving at least $100k. Don't blow that off. It matters.

Best of luck to you.
