Hey all,

2 years ago I was caught with a false parking pass (I copied an existing one). I need help wording the IA on AMCAS and exactly what I should include--I will apply next Summer but am working on this now. Please help me @Goro @LizzyM @gyngyn
As adcoms, would you like to see only the situation addressed and me owning it, or would you also like to see what I learned from it and how it changed me?

I posted about this 2 years ago here: Institutional Action... Should I even bother applying?

Please don't crucify me. In real life I am not a horrible person. I was just under constraints and made a dumb decision. Selfish and arrogant. My thinking at the time was "hey, I am not hurting anyone in particular... so whatever!"............

I don't know why I kept on going with medical school, plenty of people told me to forget about medical school but I didn't listen. I even took the MCAT recently and got a 518. I was pumped for getting a high score like that but that was before remembering the black cloud hanging over my head.

Thanks all

Own up to it. No excuses. It was a dumb decision, and many of us have done such things in the past. As long as you say it was poor judgment, take responsibility for your actions, and will never do it again, then you should be good to go. I don't think anyone will care too much, unless you were to make dumb excuses like other people do it or that parking is expensive.

Man this pains me. I remember your first post. I truly empathize with you. And I can see how this is different than theft from other individuals, but is morally wrong nevertheless.

Besides careful wording of the IA, make sure not to make it look like the IA was anything other than what it really was--you may be asked by schools to clarify and if what you said is different than what your Dean says then you're truly bye bye.

Also, apply to as many schools as you can...

I'd really keep it brief, it pretty much explains itself. "Two years ago I was fined by my university for modifying the dates on a parking pass to use it beyond the original expiration. It was a selfish decision that I deeply regret, and I have had no other disciplinary actions during my enrollment."

Hopefully some app readers will see this as a broke college kid trying to cut some corners that wouldn't hurt anyone.

As mentioned above...own it, and no excuses. "saying "...under constraints" is making excuses.

Alright, thank you! I truly hope my in-state school is understanding. I emailed them about a meeting to discuss with an advisor the general views the committee takes with these matters.

Got it, thank you Goro. I appreciate your response. I will avoid using anything to explain away my actions.

I truly appreciate this, efle. I wish you will be repaid for your help.
