I am a foreign trained dentist with a gpa of 2.85 (converted for foreign course work by ece). I moved to the US this year.So I have not much info on how the gpa is calculated and how I can increase it.I am applying for the regular dental program, not the advanced standing one.I know my GPA is bad. What shd I do to increase my GPA? I am planning to enroll in a couple of independent study courses and may be take a few pre requisites in a community college. Can someone tell me what to do?

Thanx in advance

Welcome to the States and SDN! Well, to increase your gpa the only thing you can do is to enroll in some additional science courses and earn high grades (i.e. A's). If I were you I would retake some general biology and chemistry courses which will boost your overall gpa as well as your bcp gpa. Best of luck! 👍

any more opinions pls suggest!!!!! 😳

hey there.

again; welcome to SDN and the the U.S.

community college is fine, as long as YOU HAVE TO!

if you can, take it at a 4 year university, you'll be much better off, believe me.

that independent physiology course sounds good, and I would suggest some courses just like that; whether independent or not.

Try to take as much advanced courses as you can. The reason I don't prefer CC's is because they typically don't offer other then the general science requirements, and some schools even have a limit on the number of requirements you can take at a CC.

Once again, welcome to SDN. I wish you the best of luck.

thank you for the welcome note and thank you for the suggestion.... But can I finish all the pre-requisites at a 4 year university if I am applying for the 2006 cycle?

I did ALL my pre-req work from a community college and has not been an issue in any of my interviews nor have I been denied from any school. I'm still waiting to hear from 2 schools in terms of interviews out of all the schools I submitted secondaries. The only reason I haven't heard from them is because I just submitted my secondaries just a week or so ago... so it's a matter of time I think before I hear about interviews. Strive to get straight As though.... good luck!
