Please guys, I really need some advice/sense of direction. Here is my situation: I was a really bad undergrad student and have since improved my academic record with graduate classes and a competitive DAT score. I am fortunate to have been accepted to A university, which was my goal from the start - Boston University. I received an acceptance letter package from them and recently submitted my deposit for the fall. But my guilty conscience wont let me sleep at night. In undergrad, I didn't successfully complete Organic Chemistry 2 (in other words, I got an F), but have since made significant progress and my failure in undergrad may have been overlooked by the admissions committee. Nobody at the university has mentioned anything about organic chemistry 2. But the haunting sentence at the end of the acceptance letter keeps me from sleeping at night - "This acceptance is provisional pending the completion of all application requirements and required courses" Up until now, I wasn't worried about Orgo 2 hindering me, but lately I've heard some horror stories and don't want to have one to tell myself. So I am thinking of bringing up the issue and asking BU whether they want me to take Orgo 2 this summer OR just hoping it will not be an issue and it will slide. What do you guys think i should do??

I would really appreciate any sound advice and if anyone has gone through a similar situation, please shed light on it. I apologize for the long post, but please help!!!

Retake it! Call and ask and they will tell you to take it again. Take it and Ace it!

Oh bummer! Thats exactly what I didn't want to hear, but thanks for your input. Do you say that having been on the same boat as me, or just your personal opinion?

Towards the end of our first semester this year, one of my classmate (now ex-classmate) was escorted out in the middle of our class due to his/her incomplete admission prerequisites. Coincidentally with your situation, it was also Organic Chemistry that was unfulfilled.

My dental school even went as far as letting my ex-classmate to take Organic chemistry at a community college (extented the deadline) in conjunction with our first semester dental curriculum.

At the end, not only was my ex-classmate had trouble keeping up with the dental curriculum, but (s)he also failed the organic chemistry course at the community college.

Bottom line, dental schools means business when it comes to admission requirements. They will dismiss you if you do not have everything in. Your acceptance to BU stated all, it is a "PROVISIONAL" acceptance and NOT A "full-acceptance"!

Good luck and do your Organic Chem 2 this summer and be sure to earn 70% or higher.

I don't know, it sounds like you're gonna be taking a big chance if you're not planning on retaking it.

My advice is, I wouldn't risk it and I would play safe. I would ask about it, and if worst comes to worst, you can retake it during the summer, so... that's my two cents. hope it helps. -------------NEVER MIND MY TWO CENTS, MR YAH-E BEAT ME TO IT!

you should definately take orgo 2. now with all the stress relieved from your "provisional acceptance" into dental school you can relax and ace the class. Q

Why are you panicking. Many students don't have their pre-req's completed prior to getting accepted. However, it is with the understanding that all pre-req's will be completed prior to matriculation. In other words, this shouldn't even be an issue for you. Yeah, you better take it over the summer. I can't believe you would even have the nerve to gamble and not take it. And if you are so worried about taking an o-chem class, maybe you should reconsider going to dental school. Biochemistry will make you wish you could take o-chem all over again.

And let's take the most favorable situation possible. Let's say you graduate and they never see the missed o-chem class, they can take your degree away from you simply based on that class.

Seriously, if you are worried about o-chem at CC, then don't go to dental school. This should be the least of your worries. My gosh, it's not like you have to get an A in it. All you have to do is get a C.

And I can't believe Boston University would accept a student who had an F in O-chem and didn't even retake it. Do they reject anyone? Maybe that other guy with all the W's and F's should read this. I'm sure he will be relieved to see that he will get into Boston U. for sure.

You did well in the DAT, it means that you are capable of doing well. Even so, taking one class in the summer is not that bad. I took quantitative chem one summer and found it quite fun. You are better off taking ochem than being escorted out of class.

Have fun
