I am currently a junior and I'm thinking about going to medical school. I am a biology major and right now my GPA is a 2.49. I know that really sucks! But I'm considering changing my major to Psychology to help boost my GPA. However, my science GPA will still be bad so I'm also considering retaking some of the classes I got Cs in. Does any one thinks that this is a good idea? I really want to do something in the medical field and by me not doing so well my 1st and 2nd year has really taken a toll on me! So does anyone thinks this is a good idea or have any other suggestions? It's really appreciated.

Thanksssss!

Why are you posting in the pre-dental section?

Well, you will probably need to get your act together, start getting 4.0's from now on and your g.p.a. will jump up to above 3.3 or so. Also do lots of extracurricular activities, shadowing, volunteering, leadership experiences and in the personal statement and interviews you can explain why you did poorly your first 2 years.

Thanks. This is very helpful info. I am already involved in extracurricular activities and I also volunteer. I am going to start my shadowing in the fall. So, do you think it would be wise for me to retake the classes I made C's in or just try to do better in future science classes.

You should retake prereq classes that you got below a C in. (That includes a C-) Other than that, I wouldn't retake any classes. The first grade you got will still be included in your GPA when you apply. You'd be better off to take more advanced science classes and ace them then retake a lower level class that you just got a C in.

Thanks. That what I was thinking about doing. Taking advanced science classes and if I have time I would retake my prereqs. There are only 3 I need to retake so I don't think that is alot.

Maybe you should spend less time on the extracurricular and volunteer activities and more time on the curricular activity.

Definitely agree here. Curriculars will follow you FOREVER. So, try to do best in those and get good grades...priorities.
