Im a prospective student currently working at improving credentials for my med school applications. I was reading a response to a thread of someone with a 2.3 gpa and a 21 MCAT who is looking for advice on schools, specifically caribbean med schools...a few of the responses were standard like take a post-bac for gpas and retake the MCAT etc but one of them said "Sounds like a perfect candidate for Ross," and I think "with some extra curriculars." I have a better gpa but not that great, havent taken the MCAT or most of the core sciences yet so will be starting a post-bac come spring semester. I have a good resume of extra curriculars, volunteer, research etc and a few unique ones. I know of a girl who just graduated Ross who Id like to speak with because I hear good things about it plus its relative ease of admission when compared with some US schools, beggars cant be choosers. But I dont know about that comment "perfect candidate for Ross" I dont think theyre just letting anyone in, its amongst the best caribbean schools so does anyone know anything about this?

For the person asking the interview questions, what are your credentials? if u dont mind me asking....Thanks everyone!

This information may be helpful:

1) No, there was no "on the spot" essay to write.
2) There is a link on this site to interview experiences at various schools. I looked at the questions that others were asked and downloaded lists of med school interview questions from the net. The previous Ross interview questions were very helpful. I also read up on the mechanisms for providing health care in the US and gave some thought to likely questions (why is your GPA so low, what makes you think you can survive here, etc.)
3) Again, find that link to previous Ross interveiw experiences. The interview process lasted about four hours, but the one-on-one interview seems to be around 30 min to an hour. Mine was about 40. You are given a tour of the hospital, watch a video about Ross U., and have a hospital lunch with all the other applicants (There were 7 others when I went).
4) Think of some questions specific to your application: what will you be asked to explain, expand on, or account for.

Hope this helps.

Here's what I know. Keep in mind that this is my experience.
Ross is easier to get into than most US based schools. This is because 1) there are no cutoff GPA or MCAT scores and 2) the do seem to weigh other aspects of your application more heavily than many other schools. i.e., some get into Ross for reasons that are not purely academic. But they still want you to be competent and show some evidence that you are capable of completing the medical program. Someone who has a 2.2 GPA and 20 on the MCAT is still going to have a difficult time being accepted. Most of the students I've talked with had decent GPAs, but low MCAT scores; the GPA showed to Ross that the candidates were competent despite the low standardized test scores. If the school is unsure of your academic ability in the sciences, but thinks that the rest of your application is stellar and that you would make a good doc, they may offer you the MERP program, a one semester deal of medical courses that if you pass rolls you into the next semester on Dominica.

As I spoke to my interviewer, the "typical" candidate for Ross is someone who is competent, but screwed up their GPA or MCAT, and maybe has other qualities (maturity, drive, life experiences) that they would like in future physicians.
