what are the differences b/w them? i have hard time distinguishing b/w hemiketal and hemiacetal.

hemiketal/ ketal is one that was made from ketone.

hemiacetal/acetal is one that was made from a formaldehyde

Hemi acetal/ketal would have one OH group and one OR group

Acetal and Ketal both would have two OR group.

Acetal/hemiacetal are made from formaldehyde

Ketal/Hemiketal are made from Ketone

Acetals/hemiacetals are made from aldehydes (not just formaldehyde as others have mentioned).
