How much are you going to hang out in Detroit while you're supposed to be working? If you can't see yourself living in Detroit, move to somewhere in the greater metropolitan area. I guess I am biased, and only a second year, but I did work there as a research assistant and it's a great place. Interview if you can at a very minimum.
