Hello everyone. I'm a Junior and about to apply this August to Optometry school and I was wondering what do you think my chances of getting into Nova is? I am a Florida Resident and attend the University of Florida majoring in Microbiology and Cell Science. I have 3 drops, do you think I still have a chance with so many drops?

This is what they say they require http://optometry.nova.edu/admissions/admissions.html

Calculus 1 B+
Calculus 2 A (Will they count this into gpa?)
Physics 1 and lab B+ and A
Physics 2 and lab B+ and B+
Biology 1 and lab C and C+
Biology 2 and lab DROP #1 and then A and A
Gen Chem 1 and lab A and A
Gen Chem 2 and lab A and A
Organic Chem 1 Drop #2 then C+
Organic Chem lab B+
Organic Chem 2 Drop #3 and then C (Will they count this into gpa?)
Microbiology B
Biochemistry Will take this summer
Anatomy Will take this summer
Physiology Will take in spring 2009
Social/Behavioral Sciences/Humanities All A's
English (composition, literature, etc.) All A's

Strongly Recommended
Statistics A

I calculated my gpa several ways
Pre-req Science only: 3.30
Pre-req Science with Calc 2 and Orgo 2: 3.26
Pre-req Science with Pre-req Non-science: 3.57

All the classes I have taken in College
All Science and Math GPA: 3.3
All Non-Science GPA: 4.0
Overall GPA: 3.65

Extracurriculars
2 years Officer for social organization
1 year Officer for volunteering organization
3 years Intramural Flag football
1 year Research in Cancer and Genetics (hated it)
2 years Mentoring elementary school student
1 semester volunteer at family physician office (I used to be pre-med)
2 years volunteer at hospital pediatrics section

I'm newly pre-opt so I haven't done anything optometry related yet but in the summer I plan to volunteer at an optometry private practice. In the fall I plan to continue volunteering at this practice, continue with the Elementary school mentoring, and continue being an officer for the volunteering organization.

Are there any suggestions that you guys have for me? What kind of OATs do you think I will need to get into Nova? Will their average of 330 be good or will I have to aim a lot higher due to my drops? I plan to take my OATs at the end of August so Nova should have my whole application and everything by mid September, is this too late?

Sorry for such the long post, I'm just really worried.
Thanks a lot everyone!

I'm not so sure about the drops because I never dropped a class. I failed Organic 2, and then retook it with grade forgiveness and got a B. That's the only one though. Everything else though looks pretty good for you. I would definitely start shadowing an optometrist asap. because you need a evaluation from them as part of your application to Nova.

I got a 330 on my OAT, so I'm sure if you stay around the average, you'll be fine. I would just call someone at Nova and get their opinion on the drops you have.

Good luck!

Definately could get into nova, as long as you score everything over a 300 on your OATs, you'll get in. Its probably one of the easier schools to get into since they are newer. I applied october, later than my other aps, hand wrote my application, got an email about a week later asking what my OAT scores were, I told them, same day got offered an interview. Interviewed in december on a friday, found out the following tuesday before christmas. So apply early, get your experience in, write a good essay, have good recs and thats all you'd need as long as you don't F up the interview.
