Im in High School and want to do something in the Med. field. I dont dislike shots and things like that. Family doctors seem like they have fun and are not depressed at their job. My family doctor is funny. It seems that a Dentists office is always depressing and quiet compared to a clinic.
But how many years of school do you need to become a family physician? I like working with people!
My teacher said it was 8 including residency. But I thought it was 11-15
What is it thanks!

Moving to hSDN, where you should more appropriately be posting.

The answer to your question, with some small exceptions* are:

Minimum 4 years for undergrad.
Minimum 4 years for med school (assuming typical graduation in 4).
Minimum 3 years in family medicine residency.

Total post-HS schooling/training prior to getting into practice: 11 years.

*Small exceptions to the minimum would be: someone who got an accelerated bachelors, the rare medical student that didn't have a bachelors degree upon matriculation to med school, accelerate BS-->MD/DO students, and students in the accelerated DO-->primary care specialty path at LECOM.

primary care has one of the shortest residencies and is pretty easy to get in.
