I sent in my primary application on July 3rd, 2020. I would appreciate help making a school list. If you have any other advice on how to strengthen my application please let me know. I really appreciate the help!

cGPA:

  • 4.00
sGPA:

  • 4.00
MCAT Score:

  • 513 (C/P 129, CARS 125, B/B 129, P/S 130), was doing 128 on FL practice on CARS
State of Residence:

  • NY State
Ethnicity and/or race:

  • South Asian
Undergraduate Institution:

  • State school in NY
  • Rising senior
Clinical Experience:

  • 10 Hours - AIDS Program
  • Due to COVID-19, I was not able to start a clinical experience that I had planned to start last semester
  • I was able to volunteer in an AIDS patient support program in June where I helped create care packages with basic health supplies. During my senior year at university, I plan on returning to help make syringe kits and distribute them to patients so they can safely inject themselves
  • I am currently volunteering at a hospital (where I volunteered in high school) as a patient transporter for patient discharges from an Endoscopy Unit. I started this past Tuesday and will accumulate 150 to 180 hours before end of August.
  • I will include these hours in the secondary applications
Research Experience

  • 400 Hours - Summer Research Immersion Program
  • Learned basic research skills, worked with a team to investigate biofilm development and dispersal, poster session at the end, acknowledgment on a poster presented at the national American Society of Microbiology conference
  • 350 Hours – Research in Mitochondrial Genetics Lab (Junior Year)
  • Planned an independent study to investigate the role different variations in mitochondrial DNA play in fitness differences between yeast of the same nuclear DNA background. Currently working on figures for a publication
Shadowing Experience

  • 150 Hours
  • Mainly shadowed an interventional cardiologist over 2 years who I observed in the hospital during in-patient rounds and during catheterization procedures. Also observed out-patient work
  • Also shadowed two urologists at their outpatient facility, where I watched office consultations, follow ups and a number of procedures
Non-Clinical Volunteering

  • 300 Hours - Partners in Health Club
  • I served as the fundraising team lead for PIH my sophomore and junior years of college. Across my three years in the club, I raised close to $8,000 dollars for healthcare in the developing world
  • 52 Hours – Volunteer at Soup Kitchen
  • Volunteered at a soup kitchen at my hometown for consecutive summers
Relevant Honors and Awards

  • Phi Beta Kappa
  • Published a synthesis essay about the poor state of rural healthcare in the United States and how it makes rural patients more vulnerable in TuftScope, a peer-reviewed undergraduate journal at Tufts University

U Missouri accepts very few non residents with no connection to that region. Rush expects many more clinical exposure hours than you have. You should receive several interviews from your list. You could add any of these schools:
NOVA MD
TCU-UNT
Medical College Wisconsin
Western Michigan
Oakland Beaumont

I recommend:
Rochester
U MA
U Cincy (maybe)
Ohio State
Albert Einstein (maybe)
U IA
UCF (maybe)
U ILL
NYU-LI
Pitt (maybe)
Hofstra
Dartmouth
U CO
Emory
U WI
U VM
Miami
St. Louis
Albany
Rosy Franklin
Wayne State
MCW
NYMC
VCU
EVMS
Wake Forest
Jefferson
Temple
Tufts
Drexel
Creighton
George Washington
Georgetown
Tulane
Loyola
Netter
Oakland-B
Western MI
Seton Hall
All SUNYs
Nova MD
TCU/UNT
Uniformed Services University/Hebert (just be aware of the military service commitment)

Any DO program. I can't recommend Nova, Wm Carey, BCOM, ICOM and LUCOM, for different reasons. MSUCOM? Read up on Larry Nasser and you decide. LMU has an accreditation warning, which concerns me. CUHS is too new and appears to be too limited in rotations sites. UIW refuses to post their Boards scores, which is fishy.

Do you think my clinical volunteering will be sufficient to make me a viable candidate for admission? Many thanks for your reply
