i recently got a pair of glasses and paid extra money for hi-index lenses. I have worse vision in one eye than the other, so one side is thicker. after i got it back, i noticed that the thinner side has a slighlty different color (more whitish than thicker side, which was slightly more yellowish (barely perceptable). could it be this place tried to save money and put a regular lens into the thinner side and a the hi-index lens in the thicker side? would i be able to walk into any optometry place like lenscrafters and have them verify the indexes of the two lenses match? i've seen them calculate the prescription thorugh some sort of microscope before...

One of the trade-offs with high-index lenses is increased chromatic aberration and some spatial distortion. This may be what you are noticing.

The prescription is easily measured through a widely available instrument. I am not sure about measuring the refractive index of the material. This is not commonly done by most practicioners.

Best to ask the optician. Your probably better off going to a privately owned business with an experienced and more knowledgeable optican than going to a lenscrafters or walmart eye center with this type of question.

good luck.
