Hello. I am about to be a junior in high school (graduate 2010), and I wanted to see if anyone has any advice about what I can do while i'm still here to better prepare me for becoming a pharmacist. I am good in all subjects, especially math and science (I am 2 years ahead in math). I have a near 4.0 GPA. Most importantly, I want to know if there are any military-friendly schools that have a pre-pharmacy program. Thanks! 🙂

By military friendly, do you mean they have a solid ROTC program or deal with the GI Bill with no issues? University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, TX does both and has a pharmacy school. Outside of that, I don't know what else I could tell you about schools.

As for what you can do to prepare for pharmacy, call around to pharmacies in your area and see if they will let you come in to observe how things operate. Talk with the pharmacists and pharmacy techs, but don't ask so many questions that would hinder their work. I would see if you can observe as many areas of pharmacy as you can. Start with retail and hospital. You should also check out an independent pharmacy, home infusion pharmacy and any other niche that is in your area. This will give you a good idea of what it takes to be pharmacist and if you really want to do it.

I meant GI Bill, so thanks for telling me about this school.
