I am only a junior in high school. My plan is to apply to pharmacy programs in Ohio- University of Toledo, University of Cincinnati, and Ohio Northern. Today we started registering for the classes we will take in our senior year of high school. I want to know opinions of whether or not I should take both AP Calc and AP Statistics? I am currently a B+ student in honors pre-calc but my teacher has approved me for both AP classes. I will also be taking AP english lit, physics (regular- not AP),regular government/econ, along with symphonic and jazz bands. Do you think it is smart to double up my math like that? Do you think statistics will look good on my college applications? Or do you think it doesn't matter and I should just focus on doing well in Calculus? I would appreciate any opinions.

both would be good if you can handle the load. colleges like to see prospective students being able to handle a heavy course load, so if you can do it then go for it, but if you can't then don't. getting a bad grade would look worse than not taking it at all.

I would definitely take AP calc B/C. Don't worry about Stats, though...intro Stats is a nice, easy A in undergrad. Better idea to focus on getting calc AP credit, in which case you may only have to take 1 college math course...stats.

All I know is you better take AP Calc. Are u taking AP Chem or AP Bio eventually? Cause those are the MOST important APs to take.

AP English isnt all that important if you wanna drop that.

If possible, take AP Calc for college credit. My high school did it through a local university - you paid them a fee and you took their exams and you got college credit if you passed.
It was so nice not having to take calc my first 2 years. It's hard enough trying to take all the pre-reqs so it's nice to already have one out of the way.

Also recommend AP chem. I really feel it helps prepare you for general chemistry

I would recommend taking AP Physics if you are taking AP Calculus. You'll see how the two are related and come together if you use them in both of your classes.

I doubled up on math during my senior year of high school, along with AP Physics C, and AP Chem and I did fine. I was really stressed out and lost sleep, but I came out just fine. I was also quite a bit of a hermit too. But once I started college, studying calculus, chemistry, and physics was easy for me since I had it in high school.

Congrats on thinking this far ahead. A resounding YES to both classes. I took AP Stats and AP Calc BC my senior year and got great grades in both. Note: I am not a rocket scientist.
The AP credits, if you score high enough, could give you the credits to not have to take the university version of those classes, which are less tailored to helping the individual(these are weed-out classes) and are taught, imo, in a more complex fashion.
Therefore, you can finish your pre-reqs in just 2 years and spend more time on other pre-reqs and get higher grades in those.
And you will always have the option to take those courses again if you want in college just to have their grades factor into your GPA, and since you'll have already taken the classes, your grades may be high and boost your GPA.
Of a class schedule of 7 periods, I took 6 APs in junior year, and 5APs in senior year. It wasn't too hectic. It was fine. I didn't take music, so I'm not sure how that factors in, but it is doable.
Best of luck with your decision!
