Hey,

I'm a HS senior and will be graduating in a little over a month. Many people on here seem well into their undergrad. schooling. I'd like to find someone, or a few people in my position- HS senior, just beginning the pharmacy journey. No offense to anyone else, it'd just be nice to have someone else to talk to that's at the same stages as me. PM me or reply here.

Thanks!

Also, I will be doing pre- reqs at a local school for a few years before applying to a pharmacy school. If someone is doing that, I'd definitely want to talk to you.

Hey! My highschool class graduated just last year and we're only in our second college semester. I am currently in the low core classes just as you will soon be. My schedule for this current (almost over) semester is a MTH pre-req, Speech- Fundamentals of Oral Communication, Art Appreciation, and English Comp. I. As you can tell, I have at least a couple more years to go in Pre-Pharmacy. There are many others here in Pre-Pharmacy, but I usually only hear from the students working on Chemistry courses and those higher levels of work.

I would be glad to chat if you have any concerns. Congrats on choosing Pharmacy thus far.

I'm guessing the courses you are in now are partly required by the undergrad. college you're in now? I talked to my Bio. department head at the college I'll be attending and he said it is very realistic for me to finish all my pre- reqs in only 2 years. How long are you planning to work on pre-reqs for?

Yes these are the courses I need to build upon for pharmacy school. The Speech fundamentals is actually to be used as an elective, I will still have to take a public speaking class.

My advisor is actually a dentist who now teaches upper-level Biology courses at our school. It's realistic to finish pre-reqs in about two years if you are starting at the required Math. I am having to take a couple of Pre-Algebra and Algebra courses since I haven't had anything but the basic requirements in high school. Therefore, in the Fall semester I will be on the fast track again. The only thing that hinders going through it as one would like to is the fact that you cannot take some of these classes together, you know, the fact of pre-reqs having to be satisfied for things like English Comp. II, Anat. and Phys. I and II, and of course your Chemistry courses.

Anyway, I have basically plotted out alot of my future schedules. This is assuming that I am able to take full-time courses year-round. I am planning to complete the requirements for one of my state schools and applying there first. It will be the end of "08" before I will have everything satisfied and I am sure that the PCAT will come soon after. However, that is only for one state school. The other one will require a few more semesters.

I know, long post. Are you going to be able to go straight to the core courses or skip any classes? I see two years being perfect for students also attending in the summer semesters. If you are only going for the traditional two semesters a year, I think you would have to go straight to the core courses, if not able to skip from highschool skills/testing out. Here again, I am only going by mine since I have not met alot of other Pre-Pharmacy students yet.

Well my first year, I do have a few required courses just for my school like a class that combines reasoning, english skills, and something else. Although I wont be completing my degree at my undergrad school, I declared myself a bio major to avoid the "career decisions" class. I will need to take pre- calc instead of going straight to calculus since I don't think going straight to calc would be smart of me.

Other than those issues, I can pretty much start on my pre- reqs right away since my english class is part of my pre-reqs along with the math course. I will only be doing the 2 semesters a year although I hope to take maybe one or two summer courses for an extra edge.

What are your pre-reqs? Here's mine:
Biology (General and Human) (with Laboratory) 8
Microbiology (with Laboratory) 3
Chemistry (General) (with Laboratory) 8
Chemistry (Organic) (with Laboratory) 8
English Composition 6
Introduction to Psychology 3
Introduction to Sociology 3
Introduction to History and Political Science 3
Calculus 3
Probability and Statistics 3
Physics (with Laboratory) 3
Economics (Macro, Micro, or General) 3
Mathematics or Computer Science 3
Humanities 3
Social Sciences 3
Behavioral Sciences 3

All together it is 66 semester hours. My department head says I can definitely fit 64 into two years. So if I take a few courses over the summer, I should be good I guess.

Im a high school senior!!!! 06!!! im attending Rutger's Ernest Mario School of pharmacy. Im a bit nervous b/c its a real competetive school. But I know I will get a good education so im happy. and also, I wont have to worry about PCATs or applying to pharmacy school....thats another plus

Are you saying that you are going straight from 12th grade to a pharmacy school? Or from high school to Pre-Pharmacy courses there?

Congrats on going for pharmacy. My highschool never uttered a word about this profession for some reason.

Mine are:

English Comp. I and II
American Lit. I and II
History elective (2)
Fine arts elective- Art Appreciation
Liberal arts electives- Psychology, Sociology, and Speech 106
Speech 107- Public Speaking
Two physical activity courses

College Algebra or Pre-Calculus
Calculus or Business Calculus Survey
Inorganic Chemistry
Organic Chemistry
Elementary Statistics

Principles of Biology
Human Anat. and Phys. ( 3 or 6)

After that I will have satisfied the requirements for one of my state schools. I will have to take about four more courses for the second school. Not to mention that they require 6 credit hours or two classes in History and Lit., when my first choice only requires 3 credit hours which would save me at least a couple of classes.

I'm going from high school to a private undergrad. college to get my pre- reqs done there. Then I will be applying to the pharmacy school. I would do a full six year program at a pharmacy school but the school nearest me only accepts students who have completed pre-reqs, a 6 year program does not exist there.

wow thats awesome! congrats! I don't need the PCATs either but I do have to apply to pharm. school once I fulfill the pre-reqs which makes me nervous. what if i dont get in? I've then taken a ton of courses in order to get in, but in the end got denied. yeesh, nerve wrecking huh?

Hey im a senior too 🙂 I'm a pharmacy tech at the moment...it's partially why I decided on Pharmacy. Im going to SUNY University at Buffalo in the fall. I'm trying really really really hard to not be nervous, but I'm still worried about how I'm going to manage my first year work load while maintaining a life outside of school.

Well good luck to the rest of you. I kno I need some.

What gets me right now are the opinions on my summer schedule. I am taking:

Biology with lab, Principles
Math, Basic and Intermediate Algebra
Psychology, Intro.
Sociology, Intro.

This doesn't sound that intense to me. The friends I have met and my co-workers think it's going to be really tough to take Biology with Math, not to mention two other classes. I bet a lot of higher Pre-Pharms would laugh at this schedule though.

What are you guys planning for your first semester?
(This is my second, by the way. First was great!)
