Yes these are the courses I need to build upon for pharmacy school. The Speech fundamentals is actually to be used as an elective, I will still have to take a public speaking class.
My advisor is actually a dentist who now teaches upper-level Biology courses at our school. It's realistic to finish pre-reqs in about two years if you are starting at the required Math. I am having to take a couple of Pre-Algebra and Algebra courses since I haven't had anything but the basic requirements in high school. Therefore, in the Fall semester I will be on the fast track again. The only thing that hinders going through it as one would like to is the fact that you cannot take some of these classes together, you know, the fact of pre-reqs having to be satisfied for things like English Comp. II, Anat. and Phys. I and II, and of course your Chemistry courses.
Anyway, I have basically plotted out alot of my future schedules. This is assuming that I am able to take full-time courses year-round. I am planning to complete the requirements for one of my state schools and applying there first. It will be the end of "08" before I will have everything satisfied and I am sure that the PCAT will come soon after. However, that is only for one state school. The other one will require a few more semesters.
I know, long post. Are you going to be able to go straight to the core courses or skip any classes? I see two years being perfect for students also attending in the summer semesters. If you are only going for the traditional two semesters a year, I think you would have to go straight to the core courses, if not able to skip from highschool skills/testing out. Here again, I am only going by mine since I have not met alot of other Pre-Pharmacy students yet.
Well my first year, I do have a few required courses just for my school like a class that combines reasoning, english skills, and something else. Although I wont be completing my degree at my undergrad school, I declared myself a bio major to avoid the "career decisions" class. I will need to take pre- calc instead of going straight to calculus since I don't think going straight to calc would be smart of me.
Other than those issues, I can pretty much start on my pre- reqs right away since my english class is part of my pre-reqs along with the math course. I will only be doing the 2 semesters a year although I hope to take maybe one or two summer courses for an extra edge.
What are your pre-reqs? Here's mine:
Biology (General and Human) (with Laboratory) 8
Microbiology (with Laboratory) 3
Chemistry (General) (with Laboratory) 8
Chemistry (Organic) (with Laboratory) 8
English Composition 6
Introduction to Psychology 3
Introduction to Sociology 3
Introduction to History and Political Science 3
Calculus 3
Probability and Statistics 3
Physics (with Laboratory) 3
Economics (Macro, Micro, or General) 3
Mathematics or Computer Science 3
Humanities 3
Social Sciences 3
Behavioral Sciences 3
All together it is 66 semester hours. My department head says I can definitely fit 64 into two years. So if I take a few courses over the summer, I should be good I guess.
