Hey everyone, I'm a senior in HS and lately I've been really considering a lot of different career paths, and the pharmacy career is something I've really been looking into. Lots of my questions have been answered just by browsing around on this forum, but there's something I've especially been wondering...I understand getting into a PharmD program is SUPER competetive, so if you put ALL this specific pre-pharm work into getting into one of these schools and you dont get in, what else can you do? Is it a "hit or miss" kind of thing, or are there other options to explore with pre-pharm type major?

I wondered that same thing when I was looking for a back up plan but never really found one that satisfied me. Overall if you work hard in school and build a well rounded and solid application you won't have to worry about it. Not to mention if you don't get in the first try you can always keep trying. Keep in mind you don't need a 4.0 gpa to get in either. Also did you know that you can get your bachelors in anything you want as long as you complete the pharmacy school prerequisites? Thats a possible back up plan. Make sure you check out the pharmacy faqs stickied at the top of the pre pharm forumn too for more general information.

That's awesome I had no idea. So I could even major in something like business and still get in as long as take all the pre-reqs?

EDIT: BTW my current major for fall of 09 is in Business Communications.

yep... same reason some ppl can get into med. school w/ an art degree =) Pre-pharm is not really a degree, so if u want a back up plan, u have to choose something else... I chose Finance as the "back up"

o yeah if u r really sure u want to do pharmacy...this might be too late... but u might also want to check out schools that have a 6-year pharm. program for ppl right out of HS, where u r pretty much acceptted after completein the pre-reqs.
