High school student looking for accelerated MD program

8 long years seem quite long to me to earn an MD degree. I've heard of these "crash" courses in the states and the caribbean. So any recommendations for me? universities or medical schools anything. I was going through the site of "Trinity School of medicine" and it seemed great to me. the fees is quite reasonable and the time to the earn the degree is also less.

any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

I don't make many blanket statements but:

NEVER choose leaving the country for your medical education as your first choice. There are far too many boundaries to returning for residency and practice.

On accelerated programs in general, you are considering entering a field where your training will take many years and continue well beyond medical school. Your residency could last anywhere from 3-7 years after medical school. This isn't a process you try to rush through. This can actually get you into trouble if you overload yourself. You want a good solid foundation before you attempt to tackle medical school coursework, a shortened program is going to trim the amount of time you have to build that foundation. If you don't get an absolute mastery of the core concepts, you may have trouble later on.

I agree. I would much rather spend an extra couple of years and know that I've mastered the skills necessary, than rush through it and find out during an emergency that I wasn't prepared...what a nightmare that would be!

Agree 100%. Absolutely do not leave the country for your medical training. Doing so closes many, many doors down the line.

This is a marathon, not a sprint. Take your time, enjoy the journey. There are literally thousands and thousands of hours of work you need to do to get that MD. Compressing can be a huge mistake.

lol, I'm sorry but that reminded me of the Grey's Anatomy episode where George was talking to Izzie after she had to do a bunch of rectals...I know it's completely off topic, but it made me laugh.

I considered a couple accelerated MD programs while I was in high school, so I know of some. However, I don't think that finishing your MD in less than 8 years is necessarily an advantage. My uncle did a 6-year program at either University of Missouri-Kansas City or Columbia, but my mom told me that all he did was eat, sleep, breathe studying. You don't get summer breaks because the program is so condensed, and it sounded to me like he was stressed 24/7. There is really no rush, so you might as well enjoy your full college experience before continuing on to medical school.

With that said, Northwestern has a 7-year program that includes automatic admission to their medical school if accepted. They only select maybe 30 people, so it's very competitive. I assume UMKC or Mizzou also has a similar program since my uncle did that, but I never looked into it. If you are interested in a program that includes automatic admissions to medical school, Rice University is partnered with Baylor. Their program is not accelerated, but it's guaranteed admission with no MCAT needed.

lol I know, I know...it's not something I'm particularly proud of. The first step to recovery is admitting that I have a problem...we're working on it at least!

Thanks all for the advice... yeah i know it's best to master what u've learnt instead of just cramming everything in a shorter period of time...i'll have to rethink my plans..

i'll go through the universities that u've mentioned. Btw wht abt canada? Initially was going for Mcmaster at first but dunno why i dropped it.. still if it's good enough then i might change my plans. 🙂
