Bill’s store sold 12 laptops and 8 tablets for $14,000, and Jane’s store sold 14 laptops and 6 tablets for $15,500.
How much more money did Jane’s store make selling laptops than Bill’s store?

A) 1000
B) 2000
C) 1200
D) 500
E) 250

Answer: B

P = price of one laptop
T = price of one tablet

12P + 8T = 14,000
14P + 6T = 15,500

(12P + 8T = 14,000) × 3
(14P + 6T = 15,500) × 4

36P + 24T = 42,000
56P + 24T = 62,000

−20P = −20,000
P = 1,000

Bill’s store sold 12 laptops → 12 × 1,000 = 12,000
Jane’s store sold 14 laptops → 14 × 1,000 = 14,000

Difference → 14,000 − 12,000 = 2,000
