Contractions felt in the lower back in pregnant women. However, they are only considered probable rather than definitive evidence of pregnancy. Only three things count as definitive evidence: detection of fetal movement by the examiner, presence of fetal heart tones, and ultrasound/radiographic evidence. Not sure what else you want to know.

Huh. Mine weren't in the lower back - all uterine/belly. Plenty of women never feel them. Some only feel them in late pregnancy. I had them from about the 2nd month on. Definitely did NOT (not not not) feel like labor pains for me, although I know some women that definitely said they felt like labor pains when they had them in late pregnancy.

I never had contractions in my lower back through labor either tho. But my labors were (from what I understand) not normal. Rather quick and relatively easy.

Braxton Hicks are "false labor" contractions. Usually, with each subsequent baby, moms have a greater chance of feeling them. In fact, Braxton Hicks brings many women to the labor and delivery unit and sent home without cervical change because typically, they will not change your cervix. They usually go away with a position change. So if you're sitting and feeling them - get up and walk. You might try a warm bath, which can also alleviate the discomfort.

Women should go to L&D when their contractions are 5 minutes apart for an hour, becoming more painful (especially with walking), or rupture of membranes, or bleeding like a period.

thank you every one

Mine were all over my belly too, as well as the lower back. I had them from 14 weeks on. Usually not painful, but at times they got painful and VERY frequent (like every 5 minutes or less), so they sent me countless time to the OB's office or the hospital (depending on the time). They didn't go away with changing position either...

So after all that, when the real deal came along, I thought it was false labor again and didn't want to go to the hospital. The labor pains weren't that different from the Braxton-Hicks for me AND they were less frequent! Finally, after 8 hours (!), my hubby convinced me to go to the hospital, and I went reluctantly. My contractions were still only 7-8 minutes apart. Well... I was at 7 cm! Good thing I listened to him or I would have had the kid in the car! 😱

The OB told me that I just had an irritable uterus. Matches my personality well 😀 . I ended up on terbutaline and modified bedrest, and I did carry him until 37 weeks.

Just watch out if you're still preterm, because preterm labor may not be as painful as you'd expect, and if you're too dilated they won't try to stop it. You only have one chance!

Just to add that this applies only for women who are full-term (>37 weeks). More than 6 contractions an hour (some people say 4) in preterm women = L&D or OB ASAP to rule out preterm labor and maybe get a terbutaline shot to stop contractions.
