Why is histidine considered a basic Amino Acid?
The pKas of the side-chains for Lysine (10.8) and Arginine (13.21) are above 7. That means that at pH = 7, these side-chains are protonated.
However, the pKa of the side-chain of histidine is 6.05. That would mean that at pH = 7, these side-chains are deprotonated (acting as an acid by losing a proton).
