I didn't take Histology in undergrad and heard from a couple recent DAT takers that they had a few Histology questions. I didn't come across anything in Kaplan or Destroyer... any recommendations on where to study some basic Histology?

Histology is not on the DAT. You don't have to identify any specific tissue from slides. But I will say that you should know the basic structure/composition of a cell. 😉

i just took DAT last month and there was a question where i had to identify tissue from the slide. I was caught offguard....
I am not sure where u can find the study material for that..may b ur college bio book...but do study them..it is asked on the test!
Good luck

It won't be anymore detailed than something like this:

Identify the organelle in the middle of the slide:
A. Golgi Apparatus
B. Mitochondria
C. Rough ER
D. Smooth ER
E. Chromatin

If you're that worried, I'd suggest http://www.cytochemistry.net/organelles/review1.htm

Thank you... that clears everything up. Just wanted to make sure that they wouldn't ask to identify specific tissue based on a slide.

you don't necessarily have to know what they look like. If you read about them, and know their functions and unique qualities, then you know what to look for.

ie. multinucleated, striations... ect

I had a picture similar to lhtran07's but it was the RER. I know this for a fact bc after the test I searched yahoo images RER and I can promise that it was the same one on my test. during the test I was like "what the?😱" I didnt expect to have a pic in my test.

Histology now on the DAT is pretty basic. Anatomy classes should prepare you with enough histology to answer all the questions. Full histology classes are fine for reinforcing cell biology principles, but unnecessary just to get the one or two slide questions correct. IMO other than the prerequisites, no class better prepares you for the DAT than Physiology.

I got one and it wasn't too basic. I had to really look at the picture and actually see where this was happening and what it was doing to narrow down the answer. And no, it was not something from a cellular organelle.

I had a histo slide too, but i didnt study this..i focused on other areas. Unless you're trying to pull a perfect bio score, studying histology for the DAT might just be a waste of time. Focus on other biology topics.
