I was wondering at schools like Howard where it is known for being historically black, what is the percentage of non-minority applicants admitted? Also would your chances change if you are disadvantaged but not by race?

I think the best place to find this information would be to email the school and ask them. Most likely the majority of non-minority applicants don't apply to HBCUs or even consider them. As a result the percentage would be very small. But, this would be some interesting information to know.

Good luck and I hope you find your answer.

I think about 10% of students at the black schools are non-blacks if I recall correctly.

If you're not black, obviously you don't stand a good chance of getting in, I'd recommend giving them a call regarding non-black URMs and their view on them.

US news premium has some info about this..

Howard:
96.2% minority
87.5% URM
of the 369 interviewed last year, 363 were considered minorities

Morehouse:
86.2% minority
71.4% URM
no info on the makeup of interviewees

Meharry didn't fill out the US news survey.
However, I do know a non-urm who was interviewed there this year because he demonstrated an interest in healthcare for the underserved. I think he actually did a graduate thesis on it.

Hope that helps.

hmm..yeah i pretty much wrote my ps on different experiences with the underserved and how it made me want to be a doctor more.

I interviewed at Morehouse and found the class to be extremely diverse. If you arent an URM, I think HBCU's will give you a fair chance if it doesnt seem like they are your safety school and you are actually genuine.
