Hi,

I am considering applying to HKU's MPH program (not this year) but am trying to figure out: a) what the acceptance rates are for international students to this program, and b) what kinds of coursework they would like to see to admit you.

By the time I apply I will have two years of experience in the field of public health in mainland China. I am a US citizen and have a BA with a GPA of 3.74 in East Asian Studies from an elite US university. I took a statistics class in college but really nothing else that is directly relevant to the MPH curriculum.

I would really appreciate insight that anyone has! Thanks!

Really? No one? I can't figure out why it's so hard to get my hands on this kind of info!

Dear Jalya,

I just finished the MPH program at HKU and was one of the few Americans enrolled. My guess is that you will be a very competitive applicant, since most of the international students are actually mainland Chinese. You may also want to consider the MPH program at CUHK and compare the coursework and practicum requirements, and see which fits your interests best.

I wouldn't worry too much about statistics, as the HKU programme includes statistics courses that all students are required to complete (regardless of concentration choice).

If you would like more specific information, the program director, Dr. Johnston, would be a good person to contact directly. Good luck!
