Hello all,

I am a Hmong nontraditional student with a LOW gpa (2.5 uGPA) and am currently starting the path to retake courses to bring up that meager GPA. I have done a lot of self reflection about the matter and have realized that is what I want to do and am putting all my time to show it. I am following my tentative plan to retake all my sub C+ courses in the spring while working full time right now and volunteering and shadowing at a hospital (70 hour week). I was just wondering if my minority status of being Hmong will help with admissions into Med school and how much will it help. I understand that the majority of my application will be based on my numbers of cGPA (currently horrible and starting the journey to a mediocre one) and MCAT (haven't taken it but have had some promising practice scores)

Hey, I'd i had to guess it would not work in your favor. You will still be considered Asian. This answer is based off some Asian friends experience but I don't think your minority status carries very much weight. But make sure you show that upward trend, do well on the MCAT and you'll do great🙂

You're Asian, so no. There's no URM status for you.

With a 2.5, your only hope is DO school, but if you think there's another career you can do, go for that.
