Question for anyone who knows anything about Hofstra U in NY:

Someone in my locality (Minneapolis, MN) went missing recently, unfortunately. All of the articles about her describe her as "a second year medical student at Hofstra University in New York." I didn't think Hofstra had a medical school. I looked briefly at their web site and didn't find one. Can anyone shed any light on this?

I live on Long Island now (where Hofstra is) and I can't explain it, other than perhaps misinformation.

There is NYCOM (NY College of Osteopathic Medicine) or Stony Brook (part of SUNY system) as your medical schools on Long Island. Hofstra is an undergrad school out here as well - maybe they have a linkage to medical school program, but surely not a medical school of their own.

Sorry to hear about this case; ironically I didn't hear anything about it here (but all I do is study and drink, so that says nothing).

Hofstra does not have a med school. Perhaps the report should have read that she was a 2nd year PRE-Medical student.

I'm not sure that's the case, either. Can't remember off the top, but I'm fairly certain she already had an undergrad degree from. . . somewhere. On the other hand, that bit of coverage may have been bungled, too. Thanks for replies, in any case.

Hofstra doesnt have a med school, but they do have a Physician assistant program. As said the closest med schools to Hofstra are NYCOM, Stony Brook, and Albert Einstein in the Bronx.

Often times the public uses medical school as a general term and really should use PA school, Nursing School, etc. Recently I have told some people that I am going to medical school and they ask me if I'm going to be a nurse. I wasn't offended, just confused because I always knew that medical school = MD= doctor or that some people think of medical school as a general term for educating anyone in the medical/health field. Some people just don't know that there is a difference. I think that this is the case. I looked up a bunch on this girl missing and it's really sad. I hope that she is found intact and in good health, but I have a feeling that maybe she succumbed to the pressures of her program.

The girl you’re talking about has finished her four year bachelor degree at St. Thomas University in Minnesota, she went on to Hofstra as far as I know she attended Medical school, a counselor at St. Thomas school was sharing her story with me, (I happen to attend that school, and he had asked me if I knew her) apparently he and her kept in contact after she graduated, the sad ending to this story is her body was found four days ago at the Mississippi river, police don’t know whether or not she was thrown of the bridge or she took her own life 🙁

This is probably the last bit that will come from the media, unless there's more later from the medical examiner. They're still sticking to the "medical student at Hofstra" bit.

This (older) article says NYU instead. This is more plausible, since NYU has a medical school.

This is just ****ty reporting. Did you notice that the two articles have two different age listed for the woman? Still a very sad story.
