I interviewed at UK and received this email at midnight last night.

"the Committee voted to place you in our Hold for Comparison group. Candidates in this category are not considered Alternates but they are not rejected candidates either."

does anyone have idea as to what this means? I know others were waitlisted and told they were on the alternate list. Is this a polite way of telling me I was rejected?

Yes. I think so. These schools, they can't just suck it up and send out rejections. Why string people along for no reason!

I think its a pool to draw from in case they go through all of the alternates. So in a way I unfortunately think it may be a nice way of saying your rejected.

From what I understand it means no decision has been made. They could not agree on wait listing or rejecting you. They will probably see what over applications they get, then meet again to review your application and decide then. It may be because they want to see how you do this semester also.

That's what I was afraid of. I was told they have more interviews and my application was good but they had more interviews that they wanted to hold my application and compare it to. I would rather have it like a bandaid and rip it off fast than wait around and worry/stress for months at a time without an answer.

I know. Me too. I don't blame you. Hopefully, you have a better school to hold your spot at.

I don't this status as any difference to waiting list, they don't want to reject you but they don't want to accept you either, so they will hold on to you just in case your application turns out to be the better ones. I am on waiting list at my top choice, this seriously suck.

I totally understand how you feel! I think the confusion that I wasn't waitlisted or accepted, leaves me unaware of where I stand. I wish you luck! At least we aren't alone in this time, there are plenty of others that know exactly how we feel.
Thanks! We will just need to keep the faith and hang in there. Good luck!

don't worry, i decided to cancel my post-dec UK interview, hopefully that would help a bit at least...

Well I'm going to be selfish and say thank you =). But in all honesty I hope it's because you got great news and you got the school of your choice!
