Hey guys, I just took the my third crack exam, and it seems like I'm going down one point for each exam. My scores so far are 20, 19, and 18. The hole punching is rediculous on that thing. Can anyone give me advice as to how to tackle it? Any methods to use while doing it? It would really be appreciated if someone could help me out. Thanks alot. Also, I'm feeling kind of discouraged and am wondering if I should be worried or not. I want to get at least a 20 or above on the PAT of the actual DAT. How do you think my Crack scores are looking towards that right now? Thanks alot for the advice/help.

Boy, I said the same thing a week ago. Hole punching is RIDICULOUS on Crack PAT, and I hope DAT is not gonna be like that. Don't get upset by that! I have scores 19,18,18,18,20 so far on the first 5 tests. I got a 15/15 on that last holepunching, as it was reasonable. I mean the one on test 5 is much easier. Anyway, Yeah, you are not the only one limping on hole punching of that software. It is hard, but I'm getting used to it. You finally will. Just go back and review all the folds.

The hole punching on Crack is very similar to the actual DAT. It may be a drop more difficult but all in all it is pretty close. Give yourself one more right maybe if you are taking a real DAT.

Yeah the hole punching is insane! I've been doing pretty decently on all the other parts of crack DAT except the hole punching. Like today I got 5/15😕 I'm praying that the real PAT isn't quite so awful.

Yeh man, hole punching is super hard. Best way to look at it is don't try to imagine where all the holes are punched, only the ones that differentiate.

I have been reading many post on how difficult hole punching is on the crack the dat and on the dat. Its weird to me because I have always been getting 15 out of 15 on them especially on crack the pat and are my favorite section of the PAT. so here I will share my secret on doing well on this part of the PAT. The best strategy I found to work efficiently well that it makes this section extremely easy is to use the tic tac toe grid on a sheet of paper and plug in Xs where the holes are. This enables you to solve the problem without memorizing where previous holes are. Makes it a lot easy. I had four 21s and one 23 on crack pat, three 22 on topscore(finished with 10 minutes to spare on all of them) and on the real DAT I got a 20(finished with 9 mins to spare), so I hope this solves all the problems you all are having on the hole punching problems. If you need any more tips on the other PAT sections please feel free to ask because I too had problems at first (scored a 15 on my first crack pat test due to 30 problems I didn't do) but finally found methods that made this section fun and easy.🙂

Can you further explain this or show an example somehow? I'm really interested in how you do it

oh man I sorta did what you said, I mean I went backward instead of forward without drawing the square cuz it takes a lot of time, and it definitely does work better. I mean you have to practice to get better at it. but theres is a better chance that you get it right.

Yea i mean that's a general idea! you can spice it up your own style and figure out what works for you. But doing the hole punch in head is way too complicated. Yea I go backwards too, from the final fold ---> to the initial fold. Good luck man! Hope you catch it up fast and get 100% in that!

Everyone has thier own method. For example, I do it in my head. There is no way I'm gonna use marker and paper for hole punching. That would take TOO MUCH time for me. I would rather miss two of them instead of spending 4-5 more minutes on hole punching. My 2 cents😀

lol I really don't get it, I think hole punching is the easiest of the 6 tests. The hardest in my opinion (not angle since that is luck and I only end up losing 1-2 questions) was the folding. The folding is so insane. I guess im just naturally better at unfolding a piece of paper than folding a piece of paper...

I agree with you american folding was harder on the dat and hole punching is the easiest section followed by cube counting, then angles, then keyholes, then TFE, and finally folding.
