I am in a bit of dilemma or maybe I am confused. I am starting a residency in Ohio soon, but am graduating from Pennsylvania. I have already started the licensing process for the PA state board, however now I have a feeling that I might settle back home in New Jersey after completing a residency. Would I be able to take the NAPLEX for PA, the MPJE for Ohio and New Jersey for now only? And do a NAPLEX score transfer for these states? Or would that be too much of a hassle compared to getting licensed in NJ? I have heard it's better that you make your graduating state your home state and that is why I initially started the PA licensing process.

Have you taken and passed the naplex yet? The naplex is national, once you passed that, that transfers to any state you want to go to after doing a license transfer. You have to pass each state's mpje to get your license in that state. If you're newly graduating, and you're expecting to go back to your graduating state, I recommend you apply for the naplex and applying for the mpje in both Ohio and Pennsylvania. Doing a license transfer after you finish school is a pain in the butt.

Here's a article that's a few years old but still applies.

I have not taken the NAPLEX but planning to take it in July. I am not planning to go back to my graduating state, but more so where my family is in New Jersey. That is where the problem is. Should I not bother getting licensed in PA at all, I did it only bc that is where I am graduating from school.

Thank you, I think where I am confused is if I take the NAPLEX for PA, and just want to score transfer for the NAPLEX for other states do I still have to take the Pennsylvania MPJE?

You have to pay for the mpje in multiple states, and that can get costly for a new grad, but looking back at it, I would get licensed in multiple states Id reasonably would go back to as after you graduate. Reciprocity sucks. If you're not really feeling going to Pennsylvania after your residency and you haven't paid anything yet, then don't. But highly recommend applying to multiple states you want to go to after residency to save you a hassle later and to keep your options open. You never know where a job or family will take you.
