I'm an IMG, who recently finished school, but did not match this year. I have taken step 3 already. My scores are 87/88/93 for step 1,2 and 3 respectively. Do I have a shot at getting interviews in New York? I did all my clinical rotations here in the US, and have LORs from attendings where I rotated. I would really like to get a spot in NY. Does anyone know anything about NYMC program? Any input would be great.

you'll be fine, relax.
i think you have good shot at most of them... save columbia and those couple top notch programs.
wondering..how many 2010 iv's did you get? did you apply outside of ny? was your step 3 in for last years match?
that's a good step 3 score, should help a lot.
what did u use to study for step 3, did u think it was like step2?

I wasn't going for psych last time. I got 5 interviews total between IM and FM. I did apply outside of NY. I did not have my step 3 score in for the last match. I took it after the match.

I used MTB and UW for step 3. It's not like step 2 because the question stems are much much longer. A lot of the material on the exam is based off of stuff you learn while on rotations. I took the exam like 2 months after I finished 4th year. I got the 5 min warning message on every block except one.

I'm not going to apply to Columbia and those other fancy programs because I'm an IMG. I know I don't stand a snow ball's chance in hell of getting in there. Also, I may need one of those fancy visas, so will that affect me getting interviews?

how come you go for psych this time around...
not interested in fm or im anymore?
how many programs did you apply to last year?
don't know much about visas, but surely cant hurt to have one!

Agree w/ Whopper that the visa does seem to make a difference.

Other than the visa, why do you think you didn't match last year? It will be helpful for you to have some insight about this so that you can target any specific weaknesses to improve your chances this year.

are you an FMG or an IMG? If you're a US citizen who went to a foreign school, then I don't think you need any visas.

I didn't apply to psych last year because it was one of my last rotation scheduled, which took place well into the tail end of match season. I am also applying for IM this time around, not FM. I applied to FM out of desperation because I wasn't getting a lot of interviews. I think it was the visa thing that was the issue, which hopefully will be resolved by the end of the year.

I took step 3 after finishing 4th year to increase my chances this year. (That was a pretty risky move, but it paid off!) I have volunteer work I did during med school under my belt and some research/pubs from undergrad(although it's not medically related, my school suggested that I include it in my application because it shows familiarity with the scientific method and such.)

Hopefully, I can get some invites in New York. I really would like to live there. Does anyone know anything about Psych at NYMC? I did a search, but nothing significant came up.

If you're a US citizen, the visa shouldn't have been an issue.....
