honoring clinicals / failing boards

if a person failed their boards but ended up honoring a few clinical rotations - have they redeemed themselves to a decent level? how many do you all think you would need to honor before you could be considered for a decent residency in something like IM?
 
I didn't think IM was all that competitive.

That said, I think that anything you can honor would help. I really doubt that there is any formula to it, though.
 
If you have failed your boards, it is going to be very difficult to get a university based Im residency. However, as long as you pass eventually, you could easily get a community hospital program somewhere.
