Hood for MD/PhD Faculty?

Does anyone know what hood an MD/PhD faculty would wear? As in, do you wear your MD graduation ceremony hood or your PhD ceremony hood once you're a faculty? I had never thought about this, but my classmate who also has a PhD was asking me, and now I'm curious too.

At my institution we attend both ceremonies, so you actually wear both. Actually, I only got to wear the MD one because of a strange circumstance (a bomb threat was called in on the venue for the PhD ceremony, and the location was quickly changed. Unfortunately the hoods got left at the original location 🙁 ).

Once you are faculty, I don't think it matters...

I also really want to wear my PhD hood to my MD graduation, but I suspect my administration wouldn't have a sense of humor about it.

Right, I mean faculty, not students. Obviously, I wore my PhD hood for my grad school graduation, and I will be hooded with my MD hood for my med school graduation. I would guess that most if not all schools have separate ceremonies for their med students' graduation, albeit maybe on the same weekend as the regular graduation. That's what they do at my school, at any rate. But my classmate's question is, ten years from now when you're sitting on the stage as a faculty member, which hood would you wear then?? I've asked one faculty member here who is a PhD-to-MD, and he said that he wears his MD hood. But he went to med school here and did his PhD elsewhere, so I think that's the main reason why he chooses to wear the MD hood. 🙂

Bummer on not getting to wear your PhD hood, BTW. :cry:
