Hope for a 27 MCAT

You are the reason everyone else in the state of Michigan thinks people that went to Michigan are stuck up snobs, congrats! As a UM-Dearborn alum, I had AT LEAST 10 professors that were also professors at Ann Arbor. Same education, 10k cheaper, same degree, they are both wolverines. Do a little research snob. Anyways, Go blue.
Hate to burst your bubble, but the degree says University of Michigan and it is signed by president Schlissel. I know this may come as a shock...

As much as I enjoyed watching this battle, I figured I'd join based off of my experiences. First off, I think UofM-Ann arbor is an amazing school and there are benefits for attending this university vs UofM-Dearborn, especially its credentials. However, there are also benefits of attending Dearborn. The smaller campus/class sizes give you considerably more opportunities in the palm of your hands. Better relationships w/ professors, research opportunities, organization involvement, a more community feel/less shooter environment etc.
The expectation and competitiveness at UofM-Ann arbor is higher yes, but the level of education isn't. Being accepted into both programs and knowing others who attended both, I can personally advocate for this.
Lastly, during my time at Dearborn I was able to balance a whole plethora of activities that I would have been able balance at Ann Arbor. Along side the stress of being a premed, I was a full time student athlete, conducted 3 years of biochem, worked, student mentored, tutored, was on the eboard of 4 organizations, volunteered weekly and tbh partied my ass off. I am not saying this is to brag, but to emphasize that UofM-Dearborn does offer a multitude benefits that Ann Arbor doesn't provide.. So don't be so quick to disregard the program. Yes, Ann Arbor is world-renowned but if I would have attended that campus I wouldn't have had the opportunities I had at Dearborn..& I may not have even matriculated into medical school.

Regardless, congrats to OP's son and to everyone else who was accepted during this vicious cycle.

Congrats on your son's successes @Daddy O.

Actually, it may have, as the degree from the "satellite" school says "University of Michigan" just like yours. Get off your high horse, no one cares that you paid more to go to school and live in Ann Arbor...
Lol once again, no one asked nor cares.

Why did you create an account just to spite a respected member? The rage can be saved in a PM (but seriously, why rage at all?)

And when you apply to medical school you indicate which campus you attended. Thus, my application stated ''University of Michigan- Ann Arbor'' and OP's son's would say ''University of Michigan-Dearborn''.

Your insecurity over which school you attended is leading you to misunderstand. If OP's son went to a satellite location, it's more impressive that he got in with those numbers. Dearborn students don't have the same research opportunities (the big names stay at the main campus), professors (again, the big names stay at the main campus), or the name recognition (satellite locations are less selective in admissions).
True, however, there are about 5 students from UM-Dearborn were admitted to UMMS this cycle, matches the 5 students from my alma mater MSU, and 7 from Wayne State !!
Go Green Go White, but always, GO BLUE!

Update : My son got of the waitlist and was accepted to Wayne State University School of Medicine. So for a 27 MCAT, and a 3.68 GPA, He applied to 14 schools, got 12 interviews, (only interviewed at 4), got accepted to Mich State DO, CMU MD, and Wayne State MD. He is going to Wayne State, and started this morning. Thank you all!!

Congrats to him. But why did you quote me?

Michigan-Dearborn is not a real Wolverine.
I know this is an older thread, but it popped up. Just stopped by to say this is one of the silliest things I have ever heard. I have seen more UM Dearborn kids successfully matriculate into medical school in MI than my peers from UM-Ann Arbor. Also it's attitudes like this that give Ann Arbor the snobby & uppity reputation it has and somewhat deserves.

Did you really just jump in here to start an argument? Get over it.

Basically:

If only every argument followed the same path.
Person 1:"Wanna go?"
Person 2: "But do you really wanna go?"
Person 1: "You right, you right."
El fin.
