Hopkins vs Mayo?

This forum made possible through the generous support of SDN members, donors, and sponsors. Thank you.
it's hard without specifics about you, your interests, your financial situation, etc.

i'm going to mayo because the class is so small, i got a scholarship, the teaching is incredible, the doctors all seem more than eager to have students rotate, the first year classes are taught mainly by mds, they pay for international rotations, they pay for away rotations, the students seem nice, etc.

Mayo is a great place to study medicine. I picked Mayo over other schools due to small class size and this pays off in more ways than you can imagine! the professors *always* have time to answer questions and take care of any concern you may have this to me is priceless. Scholarships always help and takes worries away from specializing just due to monetary concerns, you can pick what you really enjoy w/o worrying about huge debt. The facilities are phenomenal and your mentors are world reknown. Most of those teaching our classes are M.D's hence the clinical aspect of all our courses. First and second year is pass/fail...I could go on and on.

Why do "help me choose" posts always involve at least one top school?

Mayo does have great faculty and the scholarship factor is awesome.

Keep in mind though, that Rochester MN doesn't have a whole lot going on. I personally wouldn't want to live in Baltimore (I am a midwestern kind of gal!), but the number one complaints I hear about nearby Mayo is the lack of stuff to do and lack of diversity. Though it's a city of 80,000, the restaurants and nightlife available are lacking. If you are coming from a big city or are a big city person, Mayo may not be for you.

Both schools will prepare you well and allow you to try for whatever field you choose.
