I've scribed for a Hospitalist group for 1+ year now, bunch of them being DOs. They all underwent an IM residency and then specialized in hospital medicine. Lots of secondaries ask for experience with primary care/rural physicians which hospitalists are not, but IM is. Is there a way I can spin this at all? Any similar experiences out there? I'm just having a tough time talking about specific experiences with only primary care.

How do you specialize in hospital medicine after IM? Do you mean they chose to practice as hospitalists instead of outpatient? Just say you shadowed an Internal Medicine doc.

Well technically there are some Hospital Medicine Fellowships out there you can do after IM. Those are more geared for those that want to go to into academic hospital medicine or more of a admin/leadership role in the field but they are out there. Vast majority just do IM though.
