hi friends, one of my friend asked me a question that if e.g we take coffee or tea and soon after it we talk some cold drink or ice cream, do this have any effect on our teeth or oral soft tissues or any other systemic effect.

hi everybody,
no body knows answer to the above question 😕

....and it is purely based on what I have seen and heard from patients.

It does seem to cause some amount of hypersensitivity. The problem is more in cases where the Dentine has already been exposed and hence the temperature changes are felt directly by the Dentine.

The coefficient of thermal expansion(and contraction) does come into play when the tooth is exposed to very high(coffee) and then very cold(ice-cream) within a short duration.

Why don't you get a few people to talk about their own experiences and co-relate what I have said?

Of course I stand open to correction.

thanks 2thdoc for ur reply 🙂 ,
wel i asked the same question from my oral path professor, he also told me that according to his experience in a normal health oral cavity ideally these changes doesn't have any effect nor he had experienced any complain. but he pointed out tht there is transient decrease in immunity of person due to rapid change of oral cavity temperature so in immunocompromised patients there is increase in chance of infection.
also he said that it good to have cold thing after a hot drink because hot stuff causes more damage to oral soft tissue and also GIT lining.
so thts all i til now had come to know
