I just graduated from UB and will be attending med school there as well. I lived in the on-campus apartments, and I really hesitate to recommend them. The main benefit is being able to just roll out of bed and go to class, which is not a benefit since the apartments are on north campus and the med school is on south campus. Other benefits: ethernet. The downsides: you're stuck with ugly furniture and a very limited amount of customizability; location; they cost an arm and a leg. I was in a 2 bedroom paying $540 a month, and I am moving to a place in Buffalo (on Elmwood, the good part with shops and bars and lots of stuff in walking distance) for $325 (2 bed, $650 total), all utilities included. If I were you, I'd shop around a bit and see if you can't find something around south campus or really in the city. It'll definitely save you money, if nothing else.
