Just when you thought it was safe to be excited about going to vetschool you get slapped in the face with the reality that finding a place to live is proving to be just as hard as anything else associated with VS.

Its less than 30 days until I have to be in GA for VS orientation and I still dont have a place to live/stay. Anyone else in the same boat and how are you coping? What means are you using to look for places to call "home"?

Yes, and it terrifies me. I don't have a family moving with me (just my cat, if all goes well) and don't have a house to sell, though, so I'm fortunate in that sense. I would have loved to have signed a lease in June like it was suggested, but I simply didn't have the money for a safety or pet deposit until, well, today lol. Mostly, I've been trying to remain as calm as possible about it by remembering that many vet students don't get an acceptance call until 2 weeks or less before vet school begins, and I have never heard any of these people mention an inability to find a place to live, even if where they wind up living at first isn't their first choice in residences. I would be lying if I said I wasn't having nightmares about it and sleepless nights over it, though. I start calling places with my fingers crossed on Monday in the hopes of signing a lease on a place I will have never seen. Eeek.

Good luck to us both. :luck::xf:

I don't have a place yet, either. My SO was moving with me, but decided the day before we were signing a lease that he just couldn't move to Blacksburg. It sucks because that left me starting my housing search over looking for cheaper places (since I won't be splitting the cost with him) and/or roommates just about a month before school starts. 👎

This also happens to be a really busy time where I'm working, so I'm having trouble finding the time to search for a place, email potential landlords and roommates and etc. Luckily, this is my last week of work, so hopefully I should be able to devote more time to a housing search pretty soon. I'm staying positive - it's just a one year lease so even if I end up someplace that isn't my ideal, it'll only be a year and then I can move. Plus who knows, maybe I'll end up in an awesome place that wouldn't have been available a month ago.

Hi guys,
One thing that worked well for me was posting on craigslists in the housing wanted section. I was very specific about what I wanted. Then people can track you down as opposed to you finding them. I got lots of responses by doing that. Also check the school's housisng lists (but I am sure you have done that already).

Thanks for the advice guys. I hate to say misery loves company, but Im glad Im not the only one in this situation. Ive definately been cruising craigslist consistantly. We put in an offer to buy a house but we wont be notified with a 👎 or 👍 for 6-8 weeks. 😱 Dont you just love GA. 😎 The people here are absolutely lovely but you might actually witness your grass grow faster than official documents get processed. So I dont want to sign a 12-9 mth lease when I might have a house to buy in a month or so. Second option is to try and rent a room until we hear about the house but I cant find anyone that willing to let me go month to month. Other problem is I only got approved for enough loans to cover my tuition. Rent for a 4BR house here starts at 1100 for dump/getto and 1250 for decent and goes up from there. Ouch! Wasnt expecting that.

I am in the exact same boat both with loans and the housing situation. It was hell to find a decent 2 bedroom house in Fort Collins, CO that was under 1250/month. Not to mention the cost of making trips back and forth from Texas to look at prospective rent houses. It seems like you have to be wealthy to attend vet school or have parents that are willing to pay for everything. I don't have either LOL.

Ouch! Is he still your SO?

Well, we're sort of in flux right now, but things aren't looking so good for him at the moment.

🙁 Ooo. Pandacinny. Im so sorry. Its a hard enough transition without the drama. Sending good vibes and a hug your way.
