I applied to LSU-New Orleans and UT-Houston dental schools this fall (1st time applicant. I would classify myself a competitive app and finsihed my secondary for LSU 2 weeks ago, interview invite last week and the big day is December 11th. Houston as yet updated me on my status since I received the verification email regrading that my app has been received (early October).

Please choose why you believe Houston has not invited me for an interview yet and please tell me what you feel will be the outcome:

A.) I am a non-Texas resident with primary residency in LA (even though one of there admission officers at UTDB said that 10% of the seats are reserved for out of state students and with 80 D1's in each class that means there are 8 seats availible)

B.) My DAT is too low (20 AA, 18 TS, 16 PAT:meanie:)

C.) I am an underrep minority (black male)

D.) UTDB-Houston is just flat out hard, competitive dental school to be admitted into

E.) None of the above (explaination please)

I really appriciate yall's feedback,

Doc Thriller

if you are in fact a medical student, the fact that you are applying for dental school in the middle of med school is probably (no...not probably, most definitely) raising some eyebrows.

I didn't mention that in my appication and I am in a MS1. I am not the first person to make this switch and will not be the last. Dentistry caught my eye late last spring after I got accepted to medical school. Sorry for those who are offended by this personal decision, but I feel dentsitry is the best career path for me.

hey bro, no one's offended. at least you found what you wanted to do NOW as opposed to 1,2, or even 3 years from now towards the latter end of med school.

the fact of the matter is, however, that ANY professional institution is not going to look favorably upon the fact that you will effectively be dropping out of med school. of course, none of us on SDN know the details of your personal circumstances, but just be aware that this may become an issue, even if you didn't make it known to the d-schools you applied too. and for your sake, i hope the fact that you omitted your med school status doesn't come back to bite you in the butt. :/

That might turn out to be a big mistake. On the aadsas, you have to mention if you have taken the MCAT and if you ever did or are currently in a professional school. Schools can easily check that stuff.

I am pretty sure that it's bc you're an OOS applicant.
Even though they usually do accept about 8 people, i don't think it's always that way. I believe last year there were only 2 from OOS and usually those students have wonderful GPA/DAT combination. If you want to be considered for interview in Houston or other DS in Texas, you have to have amazing stats b/c seats are so limited for out of state applicants.

But hey, good luck with LSU interview
