A quick question for my fellow gas monkeys out there:

Do you think it matters when interviews are scheduled? I've been trying to get them arranged in November to leave December and January open for later invites, but I'm wondering if there's any credibility to the "apply early, interview late" strategy. Do you guys/gals think that having your face fresh in the committee members' minds give you any sort of advantage in the match?

i think there may be some validity in that statement, but i have absolutely nothing to back it up with. i'm just scheduling interviews geographically/temporally (ie november/december for chicago, january with the option of some december for california).

I asked this question to the secretary over at Wayne State. She said, "I am going to be honest, it really doesn't matter when you interview. Basically all each applicant boils down to is a final number." She wasn't being rude, just up front.

Hope this helps.
